  •  USDA/FSIS

Their diagnostic test kits detects:

  • Foodborne bacteria

The Soleris™ system is a rapid optical system for the detection of microbial contamination based on an innovative application of classic microbiology familiar to microbiologist. The optical assay measures microbial growth by monitoring pH and other biochemical reactions that generate a color change as microorganisms in the broth grow and metabolize. The results are displayed by color-coded monitoring with an alert on samples out of specification.

    Neogen’s
GeneQuence® rapid pathogen detection assays utilize DNA hybridization technology in a microwell format to accurately detect Salmonella, Listeria, or Listeria monocytogenes. GeneQuence’s flexible format allows the system to be used manually to run just a few samples at a time, or to run up to 372 samples at a time fully automated. With either method, GeneQuence provides results that are extremely specific and easy to interpret.Neogen’s
Reveal® test systems have everything to complete a pathogen screen, including the enrichment medium. Reveal’s lateral flow device combines an immunoassay with chromatography for a rapid and accurate one-step result. Results are available 15 minutes after enrichment. The tests’ unique antibodies ensure sensitivity and specificity. Built-in visual control lines provide definitive interpretations.

Neogen’s ISO-GRID™ and NEO-GRID™ membrane filtration systems utilize hydrophobic grid membrane filter technology to detect and quantify target organisms.

Colitag™ is a selective and differential medium for the determination of the presence or absence of total coliforms and E. coli in drinking water, and surface and source water samples.

Hygicult® products are agar slides specially designed to enable reliable, economic and timesaving monitoring of microbiological hygiene. Use directly on the work surface, dip into fluids or transfer from a conventional swab.

  • Natural toxins

Neogen offers natural toxin test kits to detect Aflatoxin, Deoxynivalenol (DON), Fumonisin, Ochratoxin, T-2 toxin, Zearalenone and Histamine. Most of the natural toxin test kits are competitive direct ELISAs. Each of the test kits compare samples against known levels of toxin, and provide results in minutes. Each requires only a minimal amount of training and equipment.

Neogen’s Agri-Screen® and Alert® natural toxin kits are screening tests that compare up to 5 samples at a time against a known level of toxin. The tests provide visible results that clearly show whether a sample contains more or less of a toxin than the control provided.

Neogen’s NeoColumn™ for Aflatoxin, DON (Vomitoxin), Ochratoxin and Zearalenone are immunoaffinity columns that efficiently clean and concentrate the toxins prior to analysis by HPLC, Neogen’s Veratox test kits or by direct read fluorometry.

Neogen’s Reveal® and Reveal SQ screening kits for aflatoxin, DON and fumonisin are extremely easy-to-use and interpret test strips that screen samples against set thresholds. The AccuScan lateral flow test reader provides an easy method to objectively read, store, and analyze results from Neogen’s Reveal product line.

Neogen’s Veratox® for natural toxin kits are quantitative tests that compare up to 19 samples at a time against test controls. Through the use of a microwell reader, the tests provide accurate sample results in parts per million or parts per billion.

  • Genetic Modifications

    GMO

Monsanto’s Roundup Ready® crops are plants that have been genetically improved by the insertion of the CP4 EPSPS coding sequence. The expression of the CP4 protein makes the crops tolerant to Roundup® herbicides, allowing an over-the-top application of the herbicide to control weeds without endangering the safety of the crop.

    Sulfites

Sulfiting agents are used with shrimp, lobster and related crustaceans to prevent melanosis (a.k.a. “blackspot”). While sulfiting agents are very beneficial to the seafood industry, some consumers are highly allergic to sulfite residues in food. For this reason, FDA regulations state that seafood containing sulfite residues of 10 ppm or more must be labeled as containing sulfites.

    Pesticides Residues

Agri-Screen Ticket is used to detect all major organophosphates, thiophosphates and carbamates in air, water, soil, produce, food, spills, surfaces and custom applications. Samples can be tested wet, dry, or with solvents.

    -AT-25, 25 samples

  • Food Allergens

Neogen offers food allergen test kits to detect almond, egg, gliadin, hazelnut, milk, peanut and soy residues. Each of the test kits compare samples against known levels of allergen, and each requires only a minimal amount of training and equipment.

Neogen’s Alert® for food allergen kits are screening tests that compare up to 5 samples at a time against a known level of allergen. The tests provide visible results that clearly show whether a sample contains more or less of a food allergen than the control provided.

Neogen’s Reveal® for food allergen kit is an easy-to-use and interpret strip test that screens samples for food allergen at 5 ppm in 10 minutes or less. If the test detects at least 5 ppm, two lines will form on the simple test device. The formation of only one line indicates a negative test result.

Neogen’s Veratox® for food allergen kits are quantitative tests that compare up to 19 samples at a time against 5 test controls. Through the use of a microwell reader, the tests provide accurate sample results in parts per million.

  • Drug Residue

Chloramphenicol was one of the earliest broad-spectrum antibiotics. The drug exhibits excellent bacteriostatic activities against a variety of aerobic and anaerobic organisms. However, severe side-effects have been noted in patients receiving chloramphenicol. Due to the potential side-effects, its use in food products has now been banned worldwide. However, due to the broad specificity, ready availability and inexpensive nature of chloramphenicol, it continues to be used in some countries outside of the United States.

  • Ruminant By-products

The use of rendered animal products in animal feed is a common practice to supplement its protein content. Concern about the consumption of ruminants (cattle, sheep) infected with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE, a.k.a. “mad cow” disease) led the FDA to ban the feeding of rendered ruminant by-products, such as meat and bone meal (MBM), to other ruminants.

  • Sanitation concerns

Neogen offers sanitation monitoring test kits to detect adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a substance found in all animal, vegetable, bacteria, yeast and mold cells; food protein residues; and microbial contamination.

    accupoint

AccuPoint® Sanitation Monitoring System measures the ATP   collected from food  contact surfaces or liquids as an indication of the cleanliness of the surface or purity of the liquid. AccuPoint works by measuring the light created when ATP contacts a reagent in the system’s unique sampling devices. The higher the levels of food residue and microorganisms in a surface or water sample, the more ATP, and the more light produced.

    Protein Detection

AccuClean™ is a simple test for the detection of protein and some sugars on food production surfaces. This fully self-contained test requires no instrument for reading and can be operated with a minimum of training. It’s ideal for food service applications and food processors who want an objective, inexpensive and quick method to gauge their sanitation levels but cannot justify a full ATP sanitation monitoring program.

    Dipslides

Hygicult® products are agar slides specially designed to enable reliable, economic and timesaving monitoring of microbiological hygiene. Use directly on the work surface, dip into fluids or transfer from a conventional swab.

    Colitag

    Colitag™ Definitive Water Test System

The EPA-approved, patented Colitag™ system resuscitates and detects chlorine-injured coliforms and E. coli that other tests can miss. Colitag also allows the simultaneous detection of MUG positive and MUG negative E. coli, along with an optional method of detecting fecal coliforms.
