Across the globe, 3M is inspiring innovation and igniting progress, all while contributing to true global sustainable development through environmental protection, corporate and social responsibility and economic progress. We are applying our science and innovation to make a real impact in every person’s life around the world.

Petrifilm Plates are small, flat, sample-ready plates that enable food processors to perform on-site microbial testing easily and efficiently. Their innovative design features films coated with nutrients and a gelling agent.

Accurate results in three easy steps: inoculate, incubate and count.

The plates may be used to test raw materials, in-process products, finished products, and the plant environment. Petrifilm Plates may also be used as part of a plant’s Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) program. Petrifilm Plates are AOAC® validated methods that you can rely on to deliver consistently accurate and reproducible results.

Our full line of easy-to-use Petrifilm Plates can provide you with many benefits over traditional methods:

  • 3M™ Petrifilm™ Coliform Count Plate

In as few as 22 hours, the 3M™ Petrifilm™ Coliform Count Plate identifies coliform levels in raw materials, in-process/finished product, and plant environment/equipment.

  • 3M™ Petrifilm™ E. coli/Coliform Count Plate

The 3M™ Petrifilm™ E. coli/Coliform Count Plate identifies both E. coli and other coliforms with confirmed results in just 24-48 hours.

  • 3M™ Petrifilm™ Enterobacteriaceae Count Plate

The 3M™ Petrifilm™ Enterobacteriaceae Count Plate enumerates coliforms plus other potential pathogens and identifies contamination in the environment in as few as 22 hours.

  • 3M™ Petrifilm™ Yeast and Mold Count Plate

With the 3M™ Petrifilm™ Yeast and Mold Count Plate, you can determine yeast and mold population in 3-5 days.

  • 3M™ Petrifilm™ Staph Express Count Plate

The 3M™ Petrifilm™ Staph Express Count Plate provides confirmed Staphylococcus aureus results in as few as 22 hours.

  • 3M™ Petrifilm™ Environmental Listeria Plate

The 3M™ Petrifilm™ Environmental Listeria Plate is an AOAC®-RI approved method that provides quantitative results of Listeria species from environmental samples in only 29±2 hours with no enrichment step required.

Sterilization destroys all forms of microorganisms including bacteria, viruses, spores and fungi on an object. The goal of a sterilization process is to assure that all instruments are free from contamination. There are five basic steps in sterilization itself:

  1. Clean and disinfect – Foreign materials are removed, making instruments ready for further processing.
  2. Prep and Pack – Packaging material and internal and external chemical indicators are used to monitor the effectiveness of sterilization.
  3. Sterilize – Instruments are exposed to the actual sterilant (steam, ethylene oxide etc). Routine monitoring of the sterilization process is done through the use of displays and printouts from the equipment and the proper selection and use of biological, enzymatic and chemical indicators.
  4. Store – Instruments are removed from sterilizer/processor and quality system documentation is completed. Documentation for each individual pack is recommended by AAMI, ASHCSP, AORN and JCAHO to ensure that a load or pack can be identified and found in the event of a recall.
  5. Issue and use – Requested items are retrieved from storage, checked to ensure that the external chemical monitor has reached its endpoint (eg. color change or migration) and issued for use. Prior to use, the internal chemical monitors are checked to ensure that sterilization process conditions penetrated to the inside of the pack.
  • Sterilization Packaging

Available in peel-open, flat and Available in peel-open, flat and gussetted, pouches and reels. Designed for packaging items to be sterilized.

It is important that packaging materials:

-Be designed for sterilization process in use

-Protect the item during the process

-Permit air removal and sterilant penetration

-Maintain sterility during storage and handling

-Permit aseptic presentation of package contents

Steri-Dual Sterilization packaging is suitable to be used in steam and EO sterilization processes.

  • Load Control

The process by which a load is monitored and released based on the result of a biological indicator in a test pack.

    Attest Biological Indicators

Monitor the effectiveness of the steam sterilization process and provide results within 48 hours. Provides the best assurance of sterility by challenging the sterilizer with quantifiable, highly resistant spores.
